Blue Cross Blue Shield Chattanooga, Tennessee

A new Blue Cross/Blue Shield facility sits on a hill above downtown as traffic moves along W. 4th Street in Chattanooga, Tennessee. I had an assignment to photograph this building for a story about Healthcare for the Southeast Resource magazine. Because I didn't have permission to shoot from their property, and security was very heavy, I decided to shoot the building from a distance and try to capture show some of the downtown environment.  This was my third attempt at this photo, since it was raining heavily my first two days in Chattanooga. I finally found the right lighting situation at about 20 minutes after sunset. I used a tripod with a long exposure to capture the tail lights of passing cars and the last bit of dusk light in the sky.

Jeff Adkins

Staff photographer Jeff Adkins joined Journal Communications in July 2007. He was previously a staff photographer at the Knoxville News-Sentinel and The Baton Rouge Advocate newspapers. Jeff also completed an extended internship with the Columbus Dispatch newspaper in Columbus, Ohio upon graduating from the University of Colorado with a degree in advertising.
